About Dee Evans
I have been painting for over thirty years and on moving to South Norfolk in 1992 I spent some time in arts administration including two years of owning my own art gallery. However in 2000 I decided to concentrate on my own arts practice and spent two years at Norwich City College to further my education in art and design. In 2015 I moved to the Norfolk Broads and initially had a studio overlooking Womack Water. Subsequently I had a studio built in the garden at home.
I am inspired by the Norfolk countryside, with rambles along the rivers and coast providing endless subject matter. My work ranges from paintings in acrylic, pastel and mixed media to abstract textural collage in acrylic, very often in grid format. Most work in acrylic includes applied texture from dried grasses and plant material to texture paste and sand, as well as beach finds. I sometimes venture into printmaking including collagraphs and monoprinting. Recently I have been using my own monoprints which I cut and reassemble to make semi abstract collages.
My paintings are almost always highly coloured, often exaggerated or invented. I do not aim to achieve a photographic representation but rather an impression of the subject. If I manage to achieve a certain ambiguity this is when I stop and I am happy.
